Sports Drainage Installation

In late Summer 2016 CLS Sports were appointed by Stockton Cricket Club to carry out the installation of drainage to the existing outfield at Stockton Cricket Club.

The club had issues with flooding and a water-logged outfield, which had resulted in many fixtures being cancelled. This was due to the existing drainage infrastructure failing, some of which had been in place since the late 19th century. After securing funding from Sport England a more efficient drainage system was designed by TGMS which will be able to cope with the volumes of water recently experienced.

CLS Sports carried out a deep scarification to remove the thatch before installing the piped drainage at 4m centres. An ATF whiz wheel and chain trencher were used to create the drain runs which were backfilled to the required specification using a stone and sand placement hopper. Sand was then applied using a Dakota sand spreader attached to a low ground pressure tractor. Herbicide and fertiliser were then applied before the seeding, verti-draining and sand groove installation took place.
