Earthwork being carried out

Bulk earthwork involves removing, moving or adding vast amounts of soil, rock or other materials from a building site ready for a construction project to take place.

When we are working on a project we aim to reuse the excavated material to prevent costly collection of waste material and the delivery of extra earth materials. Here at CLS we calculate the amount of material that will need to be cleared. This will allow us to create a programme to execute the project efficiently.

Heavy plant machinery and equipment is required to manage the removal and movement of large quantities of soil, earth and other materials. The equipment we use include graders, rollers, dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators and other useful equipment and tools in order for us to carry out our operations.

This first step when carrying out any bulk earthworks project is to set out the plan and design of the project using GPS or Total Station technology. e will then clear the site of any vegetation such as weeds, grass and roots. Once the vegetation has been cleared we will then remove the topsoil which will allow us to move further forward . he next step will be to create the correct formation levels for the project. This will usually involve a cut and fill operation where earth is taken from higher levels and moved to the lower levels. The fill element of the work is always compacted in layers to ensure a stable base. Once this is completed and the designed levels are achieved we would then either replace the topsoil or hand the formation back to the client for the project to progress.

Earthworks has a significant initial cost so it is vital to us that we get the design right from the get go. Mistakes are difficult and expensive to correct once the work has gone ahead. That is why our experienced team at Cleveland Land Service uses industry leading technology that ensures the stability of the process so no mistakes are made.
