3G Pitch Construction at Barwell Cricket and Sports Club Commences

field being cleared for a pitch project

This week we have broken ground at Barwell CC where we are transforming Hinckley AFC’S Kirkby Road home into a community facility with a 3G pitch.

Barwell Football Club have continually been at the forefront of organised football in the area and the Club’s home ground at the Barwell Sports and Social Club complex is firmly at the heart of the village, having been in existence for over 100 years. Over the past year, the Club has been fundraising and working with the Leicestershire and Rutland FA and the Football Foundation to successfully secure funding to enhance their facilities.

The current grass pitch will now be removed and a new floodlit 3G artificial pitch installed. This will be used throughout the week by local junior football clubs, community groups, schools and individuals in the area – and it is anticipated that more than 1000 people per week could benefit from it.

The newly constructed pitch will be constructed to FIFA quality standards and will be complete with floodlighting, fencing and new sports equipment. Our work will involve the removal of the existing topsoil before a cut and fill earthworks operation is carried out to create the correct formation. We will then install a drainage system and the floodlighting infrastructure before a stabilisation layer and stone sub-base is installed. Kerb edgings and an engineered macadam layer will then be laid. The pitch will then be ready for the installation of the Lano Sports 3G artificial turf. New LED floodlighting, perimeter fencing, retaining walls and footpaths will complete the facility making it ready for handover to the club.
