Update: 3G Pitch Construction – Redcar and Cleveland College

Works being carried out at Redcar and Cleveland College with regards to the 3G pitch is progressing successfully. Here at Cleveland Land Services, we are constructing a new, synthetic 3G pitch to the FIFA Quality standards.

This all-weather, full-size 3G pitch is our first project that we’re happy to announce is in partnership with the Football Foundation. This comes after we successfully secured a place as 1 of the 6 specialist contractors within the UK on the Football Foundation AGP (Artificial Grass Pitch) Framework in 2020.

The pitch has been constructed for the college, Redcar FC and to enhance the sports participation of the students and young people of the wider community.

The progress of the synthetic pitch work has included earthworks to create a formation layer, the installation of the lateral drainage system, the installation of a stone layer and kerbs. We have also installed the tarmac (also known as macadam) layer to the pitch and perimeter footpaths.

We are now installing the synthetic turf, which is supplied from Lano Sports. Lano Sports are our suppliers and are considered pioneers of synthetic pitch qualities, with in-house laboratories and technicians to ensure that FIFA standards are continually met at all times. Lano possesses an array of accreditations and has been a FIFA licensee and a loyal partner since 2002. Cleveland Land Services have proudly worked hand in hand with Lano Sports for 3 years to deliver over 62 synthetic pitches. Once the synthetic turf is installed we will then add the sand and rubber infill to ensure the correct characteristic of play are achieved. The installation of specialist sports fencing will then complete the project.

This new, all-weather astroturf 3G pitch will complement the current facilities that already exist within the college and be a welcome boost to grassroots sport within the town. The Football Foundation is helping to improve fitness for all, not just for students as it will open up an abundance of new activities to be carried out at the college all year round.
